Former Alabama Crimson Tide Quarterback Greg McElroy backs new coach to win the national championship. These are unchartered waters for the Crimson Tide, who will be led onto the field by someone other than Nick Saban for the first time since the 2007 season. McElroy, who was a freshman during Saban’s inaugural season, has high hopes for new coach Kalen DeBoer’s first season in charge of the Tide, giving him a “75% chance” to win a national championship. McElroy knows what it takes to win, as he, along with Nick Saban, led the Tide to the 2010 BCS National Championship. Saban’s departure from Alabama left the college football world speechless, as he leaves a legacy that won’t soon be surpassed. Kalen DeBoer, despite having big shoes to fill, is no stranger to the limelight. The former Washington head coach led the Huskies to an undefeated regular season, which punched their ticket to the college football playoffs. After defeating the 6th ranked Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship, DeBoer and his men were set to take on the 3rd ranked Texas Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl. A back and forth game saw the Huskies take care of business and move onto the National Championship, where they ultimately suffered their first loss to the Michigan Wolverines in Houston. McElroy backs DeBoer to get the job done, saying: ““I don’t think it’s going to take very long. This guy, in his career, has only two losses against ranked opponents... I think it’s highly likely. With the keys to the castle that he just inherited? I think he’s going to get it done” (On3sports). The Tide will be one of the more interesting teams to watch this season, as they look to continue their success without Nick Saban.
