Giants retain Jones and Barkley

Yesterday it was announced that the New York Giants and QB Daniel Jones agreed to a 4-year/$160 million contract. After that, it was announced that the Franchise Tag would be applied to Saquon Barkley, which is slightly over $10 million for RB's.

This move was absolutely necessary for the Giants coming off of a very solid year. In Brian Daboll's first year, the Giants made the playoffs with a 9-7-1 record. They knocked off the Vikings in the Divisional Round by a score of 31-24 at US Bank Stadium in Minnesota. They were knocked out by the Eagles in the next round. As a result of the season, that tremendously exceeded expectations, Coach Daboll won the NFL Coach of the Year award. To build on this success, it was absolutely paramount to retain the two players most responsible for the good season.
