Late Sunday night, the Passan bomb dropped. Juan Soto, who helped the Yankees reach the 2024 World Series, would be signing with the cross-town Mets on a 15-year / $765 Million deal. It comes as no surprise that the Mets were in the running, but it was widely considered he would stay in the Bronx. The baseball world was shocked as the Mets, long considered the little brother of the Yankees, took a star right off them.

Many are scrambling to uncover the true reason that Soto picked the Mets over the 2024 American League Champions. Many reasons are being floated from just taking the highest offer, to wanting to be the alpha male, to the teams' treatment of his family. We may never know the true reason. What we do know is that Juan Soto heads into a Mets franchise that had their season ended by the Dodgers in the NLCS, a run that was somewhat surprising. Soto joins SS Francisco Lindor as the main staples in the lineup.

Repercussions will be felt around the league, with free agency expected to pick up now that the big fish has been caught. The Mets aren’t expected to stop with just Soto while the Yankees need to pivot to a backup plan.
