Spring Training MLB Power Rankings

Writer: Sean VowellsSean Vowells

The 2025 MLB Season is fast approaching! Be sure to check out our Baseball Power Rankings series here on the website and on the SportsDailyMLB Instagram account. We'll be doing a series of Power Rankings before the season starts! Today, were starting off with the Top 10 teams going into the season.

  1. Dodgers

    1. The defending World Series Champs come in at number 1, unsuprisingly. They still have the best top of the order in the league from DH Shohei Ohtani, RF Mookie Betts, and 1B Freddie Freeman. They bring back the deepest pitching staff in baseball with RHP Tyler Glasnow and RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto being joined by 2024 NL Cy Young winner LHP Blake Snell. Without a doubt, the Dodgers are the favorites to repeat.

  2. Phillies

    1. The Phillies come in at number 2 on our list after a disappointing exit in the NLDS in 2024. They return the bulk of their lineup, from SS Trea Turner, 1B Bryce Harper, DH Kyle Schwarber and OF Nick Castellanos. They added OF Max Kepler in FA to lengthen the already strong lineup. In the starting rotation, RHP Zack Wheeler and RHP Aaron Nola did form one of the best one-two punches in the MLB, and they added to that with LHP Jesus Luzardo.

  3. Yankees

    1. The 2024 AL Pennant Winners come in at number 3 on our list. They do lose All-Star OF Juan Soto to the Mets, but are still lead by 2-time MVP OF Aaron Judge and have made some other upgrades. LHP Max Fried was signed in FA while OF Cody Bellinger and RHP Devin Williams were acquired in trades. Despite losing Soto, the Yankees are still the favorites to come out of the American League.

  4. Braves

    1. The Braves come in at number 4 on our list after a disappointing 2024 where just about every single contributor got injured at one point. 1B Matt Olson and 3B Austin Riley lead the way in the order while the team waits for OF Ronald Acuna Jr to recover from a knee injury. RHP Spencer Strider will also miss some time early, as he is recovering from elbow surgery. The NL East has 3 legit good teams, but the Braves are amongst one of the best in the entire league.

  5. Mets

    1. The Mets come in at number 5 on our list after a surprise run to the NLCS in 2024, where they lost in 6 games to the eventual champion Dodgers. They acquired OF Juan Soto in the largest contract in the history of sports, while also re-signing 1B Pete Alonso. SS Francisco Lindor leads the way in the order for the Blue and Orange. The major question mark is the pitching rotation, with former Yankee closer RHP Clay Holmes expected to start games, amongst other things. The Mets will look to make the playoffs again in 2025 to see if they can build off that run.

  6. Padres

    1. The Padres come into the 2025 season with only a few personnel changes from 2024. They lost closer LHP Tanner Scott to the Dodgers while bringing in RHP Nick Pivetta to lengthen the rotation. Pivetta is added to a top 3 that is one of the best, with RHP Dylan Cease, RHP Michael King, and RHP Yu Darvish. The top of the lineup will always excite, with 3B Manny Machado, OF Fernando Tatis Jr., and rookie standout OF Jackson Merrill. It will be tough for the Padres to win the division, but they have more than enough to make the playoffs and then stage a run.

  7. Orioles

    1. The Orioles come in at number 7 on our list after a disappointing finish to the 2024 season, which saw they play very average ball in the second half of the season and saw them bounced in the Wild Card Round. The young core returns another year older, lead by C Adley Rutschmann and 3B Gunnar Henderson. OF Tyler O'Neill was added for some more right-handed pop, with the left field wall being brought in significantly at Camden Yards. They did lose ace RHP Corbin Burnes to the D-Backs, but they added veteran RHP Charlie Morton to the rotation. With the Yankees coming off a pennant, and a revamped Boston, the Orioles have a difficult path ahead to a division crown, but should easily make the playoffs.

  8. Red Sox

    1. After a couple of down years, Boston looks ready to get back into the conversation for the AL East after making some serious moves this offseason. They added 3B Alex Bregman, LHP Aroldis Chapman, and RHP Walker Buehler in FA while acquiring LHP Garrett Crochet via trade. These newcomers are set to pair with 3B Rafael Devers and OF Jarren Duran. RHP Lucas Giolito is set to play a part after missing the entire 2024 season due to injury. The pieces are there for Boston to return to the playoffs.

  9. Rangers

    1. the 2023 World Series Champs come into our list at number 9 after a disappointing 2024. 2B Marcus Semien and SS Corey Seager both are entering the season looking to bounce back from an injury-riddled 2024. RHP Jacob deGrom is coming into the season fully healthy as well, after a Tommy John Surgery. Many are quick to blame the Rangers' 2024 struggles on bad luck and injuries. Only time will tell if a progression to the mean is on the cards.

  10. Diamondbacks

    1. the 2023 NL Pennant Winners round out our Top 10 after missing the playoffs in 2024. OF Corbin Carroll is looking for a return to his 2023 NL ROTY winning form while 2B Ketel Marte is proving to be one of the best in the league at his position. They add 1B Josh Naylor from the Guardians to give the lineup a little more and add RHP Corbin Burnes to the top of an already solid starting rotation. RHP Zac Gallen and RHP Merill Kelly round out a very solid top-3.
