The second match of the 2024 Euros kicked off this morning between Switzerland and Hungary. A dominant first half by the Swiss allowed them to take a 2-0 lead going into the break. Goals came from Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer.
Tactical changes from Hungary’s manager Marco Rossi helped his side come out of the gates strong. 20 minutes into the half, Barnabas Varga tucked away a header from close range to get a goal back for the Hungarians. The Swiss were getting outplayed by the Hungarians for the majority of the half until it came down to the final minutes. Hungary were forced to get men forward, leaving them exposed on the counter, where Swiss forward and substitute Breel Embolo sealed the victory with a chip in the 93’.
With all teams in Group A having played their first match, the group looks as follows:
Germany 3 (GD 4)
Switzerland 3 (GD 2)
Hungary 0 (GD -2)
Scotland 0 (GD -4)
A player I was impressed by was Roland Sallai of Hungary. While at first glance, his performance didn’t look anything special, he showed great creativity on the wing and was a game changer in the second half.
