The New Orleans Saints placed WR Chris Olave on injured reserve following a concussion sustained during a Week 9 game vs the Carolina Panthers. Despite a 5-8 record, Saints’ head coach Darren Rizzi said Olave has not been ruled out for the season. Olave’s brother, on the other hand, has been quoted saying he won’t return to New Orleans. This leads us to ask the question- what is going on behind the scenes?
There is real speculation that Olave could potentially retire from the NFL, and with growing concern over the health implications that arise later in life, it might be worth stepping away from the game. The WR has suffered 4 concussions over his young career, 2 of which were sustained within a month of each other this season. Olave has a bright future ahead of him, as he is one of the most talented young receivers in the league, but this is certainly a situation to monitor going forward. For now, he is still meeting with specialists to determine whether or not he will continue to play, and the Saints have said “he is in a good place.”
